Dinamismo di un Ciclista
Where It All Began
My interpretation of Umberto Boccioni’s ‘Dynamism of a Cyclist’, is an archive of iterations created in my first year at college. Understanding contemporary art and its context in the world today was something I never thought I would grasp back then. However, I explored various forms and details while observing the Italian Futurist artist, Boccioni’s work, paying special attention to colour, form and rendition. This, being a part of a much larger collection of iterations, showed me what it was like to bring forth creation, with absolute precision in the concept, yet embracing a dynamic flow in his art.
His work demonstrates the Futurist preoccupation with speed, modern methods of transport, and the depiction of the dynamic sensation of movement. His interpretation of time in relation to movement was one aspect which struck me. I was inspired to take that forward with my iterations, exploring with a different medium, acrylic, noticing how texture might play a role in deriving at a particular message.
