MY Story

Where It All Began

I wrote this in the middle of the night, everything was so quiet, yet so overwhelming for me at the time. I was struggling with a lot of things going on in my head; insecurities, reflecting on myself, wondering where I stood in the world. It was an interesting time for me. The lyrics for this song poured out immediately, I didn’t have to edit them too much, it had a rawness to it which I couldn’t possibly ever replicate. It was more special to me because it was the first song I ever wrote, and completed. I had managed to express myself that night in complete honesty and what makes this even more beautiful, is that I can still resonate with that feeling years ago, and remember why I wrote this song in the first place.

Paper boats and Stars is a song about that  one part of you doesn’t know how to appreciate the world for what it is sometimes and wants to give up slowly.  Creating a new world in their imagination gives them a parallel space to live in. Where boats can sail in a night sky full of stars.

But world’s like these don’t last forever. The reality one lives in is this world. So this song questions those who dream of going away, to think again and ask themselves why they can’t see paper boats sail on the Earth’s oceans, reflecting the stars of the night skies above them, almost like paper boats sailing on stars.

The reality we live in is beautiful. We just have to be able to see that.

LYRICS

Given all the time I gave you
You chose to let it go
You chose a path of meaningless
Imaginary hearts

Given all the love you’ve gotten
And all the wish come true’s
You chose to see a brand new world
Of paper boats and stars
Somehow lit up in the dark

They all sink slowly
Sing of a melody
Oh why did you fall in the dark?
They all are lonely
Needing your company
But what did you see post the fire?
Your paper boats and stars along a wire
Along a wire

Given everything you have here
The good things and the bad
This earth on which you lay your head
Is the truth you wish to see

Who saying we only live in the possible?
Who’s saying that boats can’t sail on stars?
Just look around and hear the sound of twinkling ocean waters meant to carry boats afar

They all sink slowly
Sing of a melody
Oh why did you fall in the dark?
They all are lonely
Needing your company
But what did you see post the fire?
Your paper boats and stars along a wire
Along a wire
