Under the Figments of my Mind

Where It All Began

Under the Figments of my Mind is a piece dedicated to my interest in the ocean and its creatures. I was inspired by the Greenpeace Whale Installation in Philippines, “Dead Whale”, which made a poignant statement about the plastic and waste intake by sea creatures, which end up dead and washed up on shores all around the world. These instances are pieces of information which pop up in my head very randomly and hold almost no significance to anything in the present, but somewhere remind me that these stories touch me, they bother me and they help me want to create something in honour of them. So, this whale shark is a reminder of its beauty, as are all organisms living under the oceans. It is a reminder of what we are so blessed with and why there is much to lose if they become a dying species.

The colours are supposed to draw attention to a viewer’s eye. This painting is supposed to look beautiful, because it truly does represent beauty in the ocean. If one can realize that this actually exists, and does not need to be polluted with our man-made waste, then I have succeeded in my goal of gently reminding people that the world we live in is beautiful.
